The Death Vaccine

Posted in Lyrics, Poetry at Rest on October 1st, 1993

An obsession for life he freely admits
As a twenty-first century immortalist
A narcissistic youth self-seeking scientist
His own physician, biologist and physicist

The Book of Days proceeds but he won’t turn the page
As he tries to sunder the shafts of life’s mortal cage
Defies the clock with a relentless rage
Tries to perpetuate youth as the rest of them age

Seeking not just the fountain of youth
But his life be a deathless entity
To drive a moment of truth
Beyond eternity
Though he knew it uncouth
To dare mortality

Seeking more than just the birth of a lifeblood machine
Was determined to unearth The Death Vaccine

Scorned by outsiders but to his aim he cleaved
To rule the world in the way he perceived
To answer the question of who shall receive
The death inoculation of which he conceived

Granted the power from those lead astray
To become the people’s god of his modern day
Their prescription filled at a price they must pay
Now his every command they must obey

Seeking not just the fountain of youth
But his life be a deathless entity
To drive a moment of truth
Beyond eternity
Though he knew it uncouth
To dare mortality

Seeking more than just the birth of a lifeblood machine
Was determined to unearth The Death Vaccine

Some came to their senses and started fleeing
Others tried to cease the war they were seeing
From all walks of life but for once all agreeing
On pursuit to dis-create this evil being

[Musical Interlude]

The corruption and power he wasn’t willing to end
The citizens all joined to cease this trend
Though timely demise he once could suspend
He didn’t survive the bullet through his head

Seeking not just the fountain of youth
But his life be a deathless entity
To drive a moment of truth
Beyond eternity
While chasing his dreams aloof
Tripping over reality

Recompense for the abuse of his anodyne
Left without a use for his Death Vaccine
